Do it right...

When I was a wee little boy my dad always drilled into my head "do things right the first time and you wont have to do it again".  This was a common theme in everything he made me do.  When I mowed the lawn and wanted to cut a corner or two,  he dragged my butt out there and made me do it again.  When he told me to vaccum the whole upstairs before relatives came over.  I of course turned the vacuum cleaner on and left it there hoping he would think I was actually cleaning. I was watching football the whole time of course.  Not only did he watch me do it when he caught me, but I got an earlashing as well. The list goes on and on. I always thought it was annoying and I would always "yeah yeah yeah" his advice.

Last night my roomate and I were watching Friday Night Lights.  It was recorded because we wanted to check in on the state of the union address.  It was actually kind of nice because we would just fast forward through the commercials.  If you have Tivo or Direct TV you know there are 4 speeds to fast forward.  The forth being the fastest and would usually just skip through 10 minutes of programming at a time.  My roomate knows this, he knows that remote like the back of his hand.  He decides that during the start of a commercial he would just hit FF as fast as he could and as many times as he could so it would end up on 4X.  He would fly through the start of the other segment backtrack, fast forward again, backtrack then then finally land on his mark.  The first time I laughed and payed no attention.  The second time was kind of annoying.  The third time I asked him "dude what are you doing?"  And finally when he did it again I spoke rather sternly "quit going so fast and do it right the first time and you wont have to keep back tracking, man!"

I immediately stopped my train of thought.  Shocked and a little stunned: "Oh noooo, I'm turning into my Dad"  :) Ironic....

My emo G.P.S

Last night after driving home from dinner, I found myself consoling my G.P.S.  Before you think I'm crazy let me tell you exactly what happened so you can understand "Y".

So I get in my car. My radio is turned down,  I was thinking about work, future, life etc. so I had some stuff on my mind and I didnt really think to turn the radio on just yet.  I was thinking about what happened in Haiti (I dont know why its on my mind these days).  I was lost in thought about what would happen if that same situation were here, where I live.  I keep my G.P.S on the floor of my passenger seat because I lost the stand that it sits in on the top of my dashboard. So deep in this thought, lost in another reality,  I hear, in a thick European accent "why"... At first I chuckled.  Then I'm thinking "what?!?!"  Why in the world did my G.P.S ask "why"?.  I looked down and apparently some of the wires that it was tangled up in, accidentally hit the letter Y when looking up a street address. As you know when you choose a letter in the GPS thingy it says it out loud. So I played along... Consolingly, like a parent talking to their child and continuing with my rationale of thinking about the earthquake in Haiti, i said : "because the world isn't fair and sometimes bad things in the world happen even though we dont want them to."  I went on to console my emo G.P.S and before you know it I was at home getting out of my car wondering why in the world I had a 10 minute conversation with my emotional electronic navigation guidance system.  All because she asked "Y"...

Restaurant Week...

So every year after New Years various restaurants in DC collaborate and offer really good deals on their menus in order to get their name out and increase business.  This is a really big hit with washingtonians across the district.

Yesterday I reconnected with an old friend who I havnt seen in over a year.  We decided to try this upscale sushi restaurant on 14th street called Zentan.  I picked her up at 7:00 pm right after work and had reservations at 7:30.  We had a great convo about what was going on in our lives: work, crazy stories, plans for the future, how we both are over the district, and what we do on our spare time. The food was terrific,  one of the best sushi places I've ever been to.

Im all about trying new sushi dishes so we ordered up Fire Dragon rolls (eel, cucumber, spicey salmon) Buddha rolls (surprisingly my favorite: it was a tofu dish), and another roll which I cant remember but it had pinapple in it...

We decided to do 1 every night this week since its so cheap... :)

Swanky swanky....

Updating on the updates....

Sorry for the long break in between posts,  but life has been a whirlwind the past couple of months.  Vegas was a great time it was a great way to start off the New Years.  And hopefully with the luck I had on the slots at the casino's I hope it a sign of good things to come.

Some exciting news to note:

The Cowboys won their first play off game since I was a Sophomore in Highschool!  You have no idea how proud I am of these boys! For once since Ive been an East Coaster, almost about a decade, I can finally say some choice words to my friends up north.  And man it feels amazing! haha! I cant help it, it feels so good.  I've been taking it and on the other end of it for so long. What I've found is that when fans up here are on the other end of the text, FB, and email wars they cant take it.  Hey you know what they say, if you cant take the heat get your butt out the kitchen! I have no sympathy for any of these east coast teams!

This year is going to be a pretty meaningful one for me.  I have alot of things I want to get accomplished and I intend on accomplishing all of my objectives no matter what.  There are no more excuses for anything.  Time is now.  It's time to set aside the defeat-us attitude and just take care of business no matter how hard it is going to be.  And I expect it to be very hard. I welcome the challenge and look forward to accomplishing EVERYTHING.  I have said before that I am a firm believer in mental toughness.  And when a person shows that kind of hunger, determination, and toughness to get something done...nothing in the world is going to slow them down.

I'll keep you posted on things that develop,  I dont really want to divulge because these are my goals and I dont really need anyone swaying me either way.  Plus it'll make for a more satisfying post once they are reached.

So 2010, bring it.... Im ready... its only gonna make for a better 2011!

Two Zero One Zero

I can already tell this year is gonna be hustlin! I got stuff on the horizon and need some help, send some prayers my way if you can fam! Its gonna be a long one but a good one! Ill be back shortly to update you stay tuned.... :)
